No Mother.
Breaking the societal norms
The single woman in her mid thirties on your street
The one your mother makes references of
Every time she starts the discussion you run from
That is supposedly not a good example just because
All the rings she owns are self purchased,
No loud joyful noise rings from her house,
No masculine scent lingers in her abode,
She is no woman to take after
For she is no woman at all
All your mother owns is you
No real certificates to show forth
Her pride is in her boasts of struggles to raise you,
Pinning your head in the soil with expectations,
Her life long ambitions have been willed to you,
She is a successful one in the society’s rule book
She is a woman to take after
She is a woman indeed
You are a child torn in the conflict
The desire to own wads, a couple of bricks in your name
Walls designed with golden awards, trails of academic accomplishments
You want to afford the life you want, afford a child to grow
Grow with the Man that understands your goals,
Adores and respects your business mind
But The rule book is reminding you
25 is old, 30 is ancient, 35 is an abomination
Your mother is buzzing in your soul
25 should be 2, 30 should be done, 35 should be reaping fruits
Breathe.
Breathe.
ReplyDeleteMore girls should be raised to seek achievements outside marriage. It's the only way to truly achieve equality or come as close as possible.
ReplyDeleteLovely piece dear, good job.
